I wrote this poem a few years ago, when I was at my wits end with a problem me and my family have been dealing with for the past five years. Pandemic aside, it was so disturbing that they inspired me to write a poem, and it's one of my favorites because it captures most of what I went through during that time at it's worst and to this day fighting them off. You know you've written something you like when you get a feeling like the words just come to you like they're being whispered by an invisible force and an almost perfect complete draft comes out in a quick instance. Perhaps it was also how strongly I felt about it. As every writer knows, the editing process is never over and little things are changed and added and improved upon with every reread, year after year which is how I ended up using the "we all float here" quote from one of my favorite scary movies to describe the time I saw a mini ant island forming in a sippy cup of water I accidentally left out coming back from a trip. The stuff of nightmares.
